New Chair Selected for Department
This summer the Department conducted a national search to select a new Chair of Political Science and International Affairs. The Department is pleased to announce that Robert W. Smith, PhD joined the faculty on July 1, 2011. Dr. Smith arrives at Kennesaw after ten years at Clemson University where he served as a member of the faculty in Political Science and MPA Program Director/Chair. Dr. Smith holds his MPA and PhD in Public Administration from the Rockefeller College of the University at Albany (SUNY). Prior to academia Dr. Smith was a practitioner working as a senior budget official at the New York State Division of the Budget. Dr. “Bob” has published widely and his research and teaching interests are in the areas of public budgeting, administrative ethics and civic engagement. “I have spent the late summer and early fall semesters getting to know faculty and staff and the administrative network on campus” Smith stated. “My next goal is to get to know our majors and I will be holding monthly Chair’s Forums
to interact with students and will be available for guest talks at several PSIA-oriented student organizations” Smith continued. Dr. Smith has also indicated “I am extremely pleased to be here as chair of a vibrant and student-oriented department that balances research in the discipline with caring for its students.” “My role as new Chair is to work with faculty and staff, administrators and stakeholders, and alumni and students to continue the successes we have enjoyed as a Department, College and University.” Smith concluded.
